The NSLS Foundation is comprised of a small but mighty team committed to making sure students who are dedicated to making a positive difference in the world have access to the programs that will support them in cultivating the necessary leadership skills.
Red Akasha
Red Akasha is a versatile and innovative community leader with over two decades of experience spanning technology, education, and organizational management; consistently driving revenue growth and operational efficiency in roles that have varied from electromechanical engineering to retreat center management. Having revolutionized production processes and overseen complex initiatives, Red's commitment to servant leadership is evident from her work in community engagement and her experience homeschooling three children. Red brings a diverse skill set, adaptability, and her dedication to integrity to her role as Executive Director of the NSLS Foundation.
Troy Stende
As founder of Stende Inspirations, Troy Stende has delivered thousands of experiential programs worldwide since 1998, focusing on the power of the mind to help individuals push past limitations and transform their lives. He designs and facilitates engaging initiatives such as orientation keynotes and customized retreats for student leaders. Troy is also a contributing author to several success and leadership books, including College Success Secrets: They Don’t Teach You This in the Classroom. A three-time national best speaker winner, he has been recognized as one of the 125 Top Alumni at Black Hills State University, and is committed to accessibility in student leadership development programs.
Emiliya Zhivotovskaya
Emiliya Zhivotovskaya is a leader in positive psychology and founder of The Flourishing Center where she has created influential programs such as the Certification in Applied Positive Psychology. With a Master's in Applied Positive Psychology and ongoing Ph.D. studies in Mind-Body Medicine, Emiliya combines academic knowledge with practical experience. Her innovative approach to fostering resilience and personal growth, developed through overcoming personal adversity, uniquely positions her to help guide organizations in making sure that students have access to impactful leadership programs that prepare them for future success in positively impacting their communities, and the world.
David Rhodes
A Cornell University graduate, David Rhodes is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Education Policy and Management at Harvard University's Graduate School, where his academic focus aligns with his diverse professional background in education and community service. His commitment to serving diverse communities is evident from his role as an outreach worker, case manager, and interpreter for a health clinic catering to migrant farmworkers in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. His experience as a youth programs coordinator further underscores his dedication to educational and community-based initiatives.
Gary Tuerack
Gary Tuerack, founder and Chief Visionary Officer of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), transformed his early struggles with reading into a mission to empower others to make a positive difference in the world. After overcoming his challenges and excelling at Cornell University, Gary became a sought-after speaker on the college circuit. His experiences led him to establish the NSLS in 2001 to empower students and foster leadership skills across the nation; to create a bridge for some of the brightest youth to become successful leaders who make the world a better place.
Starting with just 131 members at 16 campuses, NSLS has since grown to over two million members at over 800 campuses, offering invaluable resources and support to aspiring leaders. Gary's vision was driven by a desire to create a scalable impact and leave a lasting legacy. His guiding principle, "How do I help the greatest number of people in the greatest way?" continues to shape NSLS's mission of building leaders who contribute positively to the world, ensuring that future generations have the tools and encouragement to realize their dreams and achieve greatness, regardless of their starting point.
